The Global FinFET Technology Market is projected to reach USD 136.09 billion by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 33.5% during the forecast period.
FinFET Technology Market
FinFET, also known as Fin Field Effect Transistor, is a non-planar or "3D" type of transistor used in modern processor design. As in earlier, planar designs, it is built on an SOI (silicon on insulator) substrate. FinFET models, however, also use a conductive channel that rises above the level of the insulator, producing a slender silicon framework, shaped like a fin, called a gate electrode. This fin-shaped electrode can work on a single transistor allowing multiple gates to operate. This sort of multi-gate method expands the law of Moore, enabling semiconductor manufacturers to generate smaller, quicker performance, and less energy consumption CPUs and memory modules. With its 22-nm Ivy Bridge processors, Intel started to release FinFET CPU technology in 2012.
FinFET Technology Market
The surging demand from the integrated circuit (IC) industry demanding enhanced processors, is one of the key opportunities that could propel the market growth in the coming years. Design optimization along with self-heating problems and higher FinFET wafer and gate costs compared to FD-SOI, however, remains the global FinFET Technology market's restraints.
On the basis of technology, the 22nm segment is expected to account for a significant share during the forecast period. This is due to the high popularity of these and the conventional use in several applications. However, the 7nm segment is expected to grow at the highest rate due to its compact size which enables them to be used in several compact electronics which are gaining popularity.
On the basis of product, the CPU segment is expected to dominate the global FinFET Technology market during the forecast period. As computers are used worldwide in residential, commercial and industrial applications, they have a high demand which will propel the demand for FinFET technology.
North America is expected to have the largest market share in the global FinFET technology market. People’s inclination towards the use of newer technologies is expected to boost the global FinFET Technology market. Asia-Pacific is expected to be the fastest-growing region for FinFET technology market. Growing manufacturing operations have provided niche players with profitable growth possibilities. Increasing demand for automotive CPUs and high-end smartphones in this region is expected to further augment the growth of the global FinFET Technology market in the future. Developing countries such as Japan, Korea, India, and China projected to propel the global FinFET Technology market in the near future.
Key Factors Impacting Growth of Global FinFET Technology Market:
- Growing demand for improved processors from the integrated circuit (IC) industry
- Design optimization along with self-heating problems
- Higher FinFET wafer and gate costs compared to FD-SOI
- Increasing demand for automotive CPUs and high-end smartphones
Key Developments:
- In September 2018, Global Foundries (US) announced at its annual Global Technology Conference (GTC), its plans to introduce a full set of new technology features to its 14/12nm FinFET offering. The features are designed to deliver better scalability and performance for applications in high-growth markets such as hyper-scale data centers and autonomous vehicles.
- In February 2018, Intel (US) announced that it began shipping its Intel® Stratix® 10 TX FPGAs, the industry’s only field-programmable gate array (FPGA) with 58G PAM4 transceiver technology. Intel Stratix 10 TX FPGAs can double the transceiver bandwidth performance compared to traditional solutions by integrating the FPGA with 58 G PAM4 technology.
